July 2019 Update

Dear Member,

July

We're more than half way through the summer and soon school will be starting for the neighborhood children.  Thankfully, there were no forest fires this year to spoil the air in our valley.  Temperatures in July were normal with only 15 days at 100 plus. Last year there were 28 days of 100 plus.  We're looking forward to the cooler mornings of August.

Homes for Sale

The former home of Marcie Valdovino's mother, Loramae Mcgee, at 8293 Sanders Court is still listed for sale by London Properties, 559.436.4000. Also just listed by Dean Rhodus is his home at 8311 E. Sanders Ct. It is listed with Benjamin Martin Real Estate, 559.900.1600.

Watering Rules

Please water only three days per week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Change your sprinkler controller seasonal setting to 100% for the next month.

Water Conservation

Water usage for the month was typical for July at 90,000 gallons per household. Usage was 11% worse than the target and 3% worse than last year. Year to date usage is still 6% better than target and 16% better than last year.  Click here for a larger view.

Upcoming Water Supply Disruptions

This past month we experienced a brief interruption in water supply when an aging motor starter tripped the breakers. That starter will be replaced with a new one in August.  In addition, the SWRCB has approved the pilot test program, see below, and the test equipment will also be installed in August. Both of these disruptions should be relatively short.  We hope to give you plenty of notice and we will try to schedule each at a time of minimal usage.

1,2,3-TCP Mitigation

The SWRCB has approved the pilot test program with some initial modifications.  A home sized granular activated carbon filtration unit will be built and installed at the well compound.  Installation is scheduled for August 8, 2019. The unit will include a timer to operate 25 minutes each hour, 24 hours per day, for 70 days to simulate an annual homeowner usage of 250,000 gallons.  Samples will be taken weekly and analyzed for the presence of 1,2,3-TCP.  A report will be written at the end of the test with the conclusions of the project and recommendations.  The report is scheduled to be completed by November 18, 2019.

Settlement funds are still in the attorney's trust account.  We have signed an agreement to place the funds with a professional fiduciary.  The funds should be transferred soon.

If you have any questions, please call Nic Pope or Mike Emigh.

Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes test positive for West Nile virus, spraying for adult mosquitoes tonight, Wednesday July 17, 2019 between 9:00 PM and 12:30 AM.  A sample of Culex mosquitoes collected from the area have tested positive for West Nile virus. The District will be making an application targeted for adult mosquito control with ultra-low volume (ULV) applications of registered insecticides to reduce the number of adult mosquitoes in the area where the mosquitoes were collected. See attached map to view the treatment area or visit the interactive adult control map on the District website to search for your address to see if the application will be made on your street. Not all streets will be treated. You do not need to leave an area when truck spraying for mosquito control takes place. If you prefer to stay inside and close windows and doors when spraying takes place you can, but it is not necessary. If you are having any type of health problems after spraying, contact your doctor or healthcare provider. The spray does not harm pets, but you may choose to bring them inside when spraying occurs. See the CDC fact sheet for more information. Please protect yourself and your loved ones by using insect repellent when outdoors.

May 2019 Update

Dear Member,

Children and Pets

We moved into our home on Sanders Court in October 1998 with our dog, Simon.  My daughter, Kate, was 13 at the time and she lived with us part time.  In 1998, there were only a handful of dogs and children in the neighborhood.  Now there are 21 children and numerous dogs all interacting, playing and walking/riding in the street.
Please watch out for our children as you drive Sanders Court as they are often preoccupied.  Please also be courteous to your neighbors and pickup after your dogs while walking them. Let's make our neighborhood both pet and child friendly.

Home for Sale

The former home of Marcie Valdovino's mother, Loramae Mcgee, at 8293 Sanders Court is listed for sale by London Properties, 559.436.4000.

May Weather

May weather was quite a mix ending with a high temperature of 58 degrees on the day before Memorial Day.  The 2.38 inches of rain received during May put us over the average for the year by more than 1/2 inch.  Now we're on our way to triple digit temperatures.  Stay cool and remember the 58 degrees last week.

Consumer Confidence Report

The annual SWRCB 2018 Consumer Confidence Report has been completed and is available on the Belmont Water Corporation website. It can be viewed by clicking here. This annual report is provided to inform water users about the monitoring of the water quality of the Belmont Water Corporation system.

Watering Rules

Please water only three days per week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Change your sprinkler controller seasonal setting to 100% for the next three months.

Water Conservation

Water usage for the month was uncharacteristically down from April to 44,900 gallons per household. Usage was 26% better than the target and last year. Year to date usage was 15% better than target and 30% better than last year.  May was the lowest recorded usage since we started keeping records in 2012. May 2012 usage was over 105,000 gallons per household.  Great work everyone.  Click here for a larger view.

1,2,3-TCP Mitigation

We met with the SWRCB and our engineers to plan for the pilot program which will be designed as an accelerated trial to simulate a year's normal home usage in about 12 weeks.  The engineers will be using the information obtained at the meeting to develop the trial plans.

Settlement funds are still in the attorney's trust account, but we are making some progress.

If you have any questions, please call Nic Pope or Mike Emigh.

April 2019 Update

Dear Member,

Linda Bynum

Our neighbor, Linda Bynum, passed away on April 10 after a short illness.  Our thoughts go out to her husband, Alan, and her family.  Alan and Linda moved to Sanders Court in 2015.  Their daughter, Cassondra, and her family moved into the neighborhood just last year.

Neighborhood Lighting

After the break-ins last month, it's good to see more lighting in the neighborhood.  Thieves prefer to work in the shadows and more light is a good deterrent.

April Weather

It was a warm April with just a spot of rain which brought the total for the year to 9.47 inches, just 1.23 inches behind normal.  Abundant snowfall in the Sierra's will help recharge groundwater in the valley.

Watering Rules

Please water only three days per week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Change your sprinkler controller seasonal setting to 80%.

Water Conservation

Water usage for the month was seasonably up from March to 47,400 gallons per household. It was 65% worse than the target and 22% worse than last year. Year to date usage was 8% better than target and 31% better than last year.  Click here for a larger view.

1,2,3-TCP Mitigation

An agreement was signed this month to transfer the settlement funds to a trust account in Fresno, but the transfer ran into a snag when the intended trustee said he could not serve.  Once a trustee is found, the funds will be transferred.  A meeting with the SWRCB is scheduled to begin planning for the pilot program.

If you have any questions, please call Nic Pope or Mike Emigh.

March 2019 Update

Dear Member:

Del Walker

It is with sadness that we share the passing of our friend and neighbor Del Walker on April 1 after a two year battle with cancer. Del and Susan have lived on the 5th fairway since the early 2000's and have been large supporters of the neighborhood and Belmont Country Club, Del serving on the Board and Susan assisting with the clubhouse during the great recession. A Celebration of Life for all of his friends and family will be held at 12:00PM on Saturday, April 13th at Belmont Country Club.

Thefts in the Neighborhood

In the early morning hours of April 5, thieves came into Sanders Court and smashed a window to steal a bag from a parked car in front of Wanda Bingham's. They also entered a garage door at the Plewinski's taking two bicycles and other items.
Please be aware and report suspicious persons in the neighborhood. Lighting is an effective deterrent against vandals and thieves. Let's keep our yard lights on. Motion sensing lights are also a good for areas that do not need to be lighted at all times.

2019 Annual Membership Meeting

Thank you to all who attended the 2019 Belmont Water Corporation Annual Membership Meeting.  It was the best attended meeting in recent memory.  In addition to our friends and neighbors, Steve Lee, president of Belmont Country Club attended.  Nearly half of all Belmont Water Corporation members are also Belmont Country Club Members.
Henry Liang and Stefonos Word, engineers with MKN Associates, presented a proposal to create a pilot program for Point of Entry filtration for the removal of 1,2,3-TCP from our water supply.

March Weather

March was lovely month with normal moderate temperatures and near normal rain. The 1.26 inches of rain kept us near normal for the year and orchard blossoms popping out.

Watering Rules

Please water only three days per week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Change your sprinkler controller seasonal setting to 60%.

Water Conservation

Water usage for the month was up from February to 17,200 gallons per household. It was 32% better than the target and 41% better than last year. Usage for the first quarter 2019 was the lowest since the meter installation in 2011.  Click here for a larger view.

1,2,3-TCP Mitigation

We have still have no news to communicate on a trust agreement with Belmont Country Club on the transfer of the settlement funds to a trust account.

If you have any questions, please call Nic Pope or Mike Emigh.

Dear Member:

Water Conservation

Water usage for the month was seasonably down from January to 8,400 gallons per household. It was 57% better than the target and 71% better than last year. Usage was the second lowest month since the meter installation in 2011.  Click here for a larger view.

We will be discussing an alternative to a large system at the annual meeting.
